Joo, Mansoo Chair Professor

■ Introduction
Professor Mansoo Joo, currently a faculty member in the Department of Economics at Hanyang University, graduated from Hanyang University with a degree in Economics, and earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Illinois. After working as a Research Fellow at the Korea Economic Research Institute, he joined Hanyang University in 1994. Professor Joo teaches public economics, tax theory, microeconomics, and the history of economic thought.
Professor Joo’s main interests lie in intergovernmental fiscal transfers and local taxation within the field of local finance; he is also interested in public choice theory, bureaucratic models, and social security. His principal books include Tax Economics (co-author) and Principles of Revenue Allocation by Government Tier and the Pricing Function of Local Taxes. He has published numerous articles in both domestic and international journals such as Regional Science and Urban Economics, Korean Economic Review, Economic Studies, Fiscal Studies, Journal of Local Finance, and Public Administration Studies.
In his academic service, he has served as President of the Korean Association of Local Finance, as a board member of the Korean Society of Fiscal Studies and the Korean Society of Fiscal Policy, and he provides advisory services related to local finance to government agencies, the National Assembly, and research institutions.
