■ Introduction
Professor Jin Sagong, currently on the faculty of the Department of Economics in the College of Business and Economics at Hanyang University, graduated from the Department of Trade in the College of Social Sciences at Seoul National University, and earned a Ph.D. in Economics from the State University of New York.
His major books include An Integrated Plan for Efficient Management of Health Insurance and National Pension, Health & Medical Policy in an Aging Era, Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry and Evaluation of Regulatory Policy, and A Vision for the Advancement of Sustainable National Health Insurance in Korea. He has published over 50 articles in both domestic and international journals such as Public Finance Studies (Journal of the Japanese Association of Public Finance), Fiscal Review, Public Economics, Social Security Studies, Journal of Health Administration, Health Economics and Policy Studies, and others.
He has won the Excellent Science & Technology Paper Award granted by the Korea Federation of Science and Technology Societies, and in 2007 received a Presidential Commendation for contributions to the development of national health insurance. In 2014, he was awarded the Order of Okjo Geunjeong (a civil merit medal) for his contributions to the advancement of health and medical services.
He has served as President of the Korean Health Economics & Policy Association, President of the Korean Social Security Association, President of the Korean Society of Health Administration, and as Standing Representative of the “Opening Paths to Health & Welfare Society” group. He has also been Dean of the College of Business and Economics at Hanyang, a member of the Presidential Regulatory Reform Commission’s Private Sector Regulatory Reform Committee, Chairman of the Health & Medical Sector of the Ministry of Health & Welfare’s Self-Evaluation Committee, Chair of the National Health Insurance Corporation’s Financial Operations Committee, and exchange professor at the University of Washington in the U.S.
He is currently serving as Vice-Chair of the National Health Insurance Policy Deliberation Committee of the Ministry of Health & Welfare, a member of the Ministry’s Medical Functional Development Committee, a member of the task force for improving the health insurance premium assessment system, Chair of the Evaluation Sub-committee of the Future Strategy Committee at the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service, an internal evaluation commissioner for the National Tax Service, an advisory member for the Korea Forest Service, and in other roles.
